What is NANOCOM:
NANOCOM is a diagnostic tool that, is able to communicate and interact with the ECUs installed on all TD5 powered DEFENDER and DISCOVERY 2 vehicles. NANOCOM is a self sufficient unit, that can operate with or without a laptop
NANOCOM's components:
NANOCOM is composed of an interface module with display, which is connected to the OBDII car plug, from which it communicates with the different ECUs and receives the necessary power supply
The interface and cable are the heart of the system, which can be interfaced with any PC via RS232 serial port or USB-RS232 adaptor (see BA 5012 Fly Lead below). The system is provided with a PC Windows application, allowing you to use all diagnostic functions easily. It also enables the exchange of the files generated by the interface during the diagnostic sessions
The PC is there only to transfer and display the files, it doesn't need to be in the car. During the diagnostic sessions, NANOCOM allows the saving of any useful information, including the dynamic reading of the inputs and outputs. It is thus possible to view the data and even transfer it to a remote PC. The interface module is provided with an auxiliary power input, to which it's possible to connect a standard line adaptor -12VDC minimum 100mA (not included) to plug into your home power system.
The application only works with Windows Xp or higher operating systems, so the minimum hardware requirements are those necessary to install that operting system. With other older operating systems the application is not guaranteed work
What does NANOCOM do?
At present the diagnostic capabilities are the following:
TD5 Engine control module ECU
Reads and clears fault codesTD% ECU
Reads inputs (sensors) and ouputs (driving values of actuators) in real time
Stores the input-output values in a file with graphic viewing
Reads and writes injectors rates and other settings
Output test (injectors, pump, glow plugs etc)
Security code learning
Reads and writes ECU's firmware (map tuning) this is only applicable if you have a “flash “ type ECU.

NANOCOM is a fully upgradable system which enables to add new features installing the upgraded firmware by downloading it from the dedicated area in this web site
Bodycontrol VALEO-BCU alarm module and ABS-TC WABCO-SLABS module for DISCOVERY II are now being developped
NANOCOM as an “On Board” instrument:
NANOCOM has a special functions that allow it work as a true on board Engine Management tool. By setting the INSTRUMENT mode you can leave it connected to the OBDII plug, at any time you want by pressing just one button, NANOCOM starts reading the following data via diagnostic port:
Engine speed
Coolant temperature
Turbo pressure
Battery voltage
and keeps on displaying the data whilst the car engine is running. When the ECU is turned off, the communication stops and NANOCOM turns off automatically.
